Season of Renewal

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. Now in all fairness, I can find something to like about each of the seasons. But spring means that the lilacs in our yard bloom. Soon after that, other plants wake up and bloom. Seeing the garden come back to life reminds me of the new life and renewal that symbolize spring.

Now there are things that spring means to me in my other roles too. As a wife, it means my wedding anniversary is coming up. My husband is one of my greatest supporters. He helps in my market booths, steps up as cameraman when I make videos, and he has even posed for me when I was drawing illustrations of Delbert's dad. As a mom, well we all know when Mother's Day is. I honor my mom, a.k.a. my first editor. My kids have cheered for me, posed for me, and helped out when needed. Last year, they helped celebrate Delbert's fifth anniversary with a cake. Yes, spring is also the season when I became an author.

I've told the story in a previous post of how I became an author. I have launched several of my books in the spring and started others. I sit in my studio with the window open, and I can hear birds chirping outside. I get energized and inspired to draw new characters and organize new stories. I also prepare for farmers' market season. I remembered a few years ago how much my children were drawn to booths that had books or toys for them when we'd go to the farmers' market. With that, I tried my own booth to promote my books. And so BP's Bookshelf was created. In those early days, I would bring coloring pages for little shoppers. That lead to an actual coloring book, which in turn lead to other new ideas for the market booth. This will be my third season having a booth, as last year's Covid restrictions meant only food vendors were allowed. So instead I launched a book, built a website, and created a YouTube channel.

Spring is most definitely a season of growth and renewal. Dormant plants wake up, perennial seeds grow, and new life develops in the garden. With so many things sprouting and blooming, spring is just an amazing season.
